New members - Andrew Peat, Desley Horton and Simon Ladd

Shortland Chambers is pleased to announce that Andrew Peat, Desley Horton and Simon Ladd have joined as members.

Andrew Peat


Andrew is welcomed back to the independent bar and Chambers following a period in private practice.  Andrew acts in a wide variety of civil cases, with particular interest and experience in property law and related fields.


Andrew spent a number of years as a junior barrister at Shortland Chambers and, prior to that, practiced at one of New Zealand’s leading commercial law firms.  Andrew also has a Masters in Law (Hons, First) from Trinity College, Dublin.

Desley Horton


Desley joins Shortland Chambers from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in London, where she worked in the firm’s international litigation and arbitration team. Prior to that, Desley completed her Masters in Law at Stanford University and was a member of Russell McVeagh’s litigation team in Auckland.  Desley practises in commercial and civil litigation and has particular experience in contract, company and trusts disputes.

Simon Ladd


Formerly a senior litigation partner at Bell Gully, Simon is an experienced commercial and regulatory lawyer, specialising in competition law, the CCCFA and financial regulation, construction disputes, insurance law, and civil litigation.  He is an experienced advocate and mediation counsel.
