General Background

Jenny is an experienced commercial litigator specialising in company and securities law, insolvency, fair trading and consumer finance issues, and competition law. IFLR1000 2011 recently named Jenny as a leading lawyer in restructuring and insolvency and described her as "highly regarded by fellow practitioners as 'a good fiery lawyer that is admired and respected.'" Prior to joining Shortland Chambers, Jenny was a partner at Bell Gully where her significant cases included the Tranz Rail insider trading proceedings and Woolworths' appeal from the Commerce Commission's decision to decline clearance for it to acquire The Warehouse. She has also acted in major civil litigation under the Fair Trading Act and recently acted for the receivers of several property development companies in proceedings to enforce sale and purchase agreements.

After being admitted in 1995, Jenny spent three years as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where she completed Masters degrees in Law and International Relations. She then joined the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office, where she worked with international legal institutions including the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice, before returning to New Zealand and joining Bell Gully in 2003.
